Notes:Cobbers, 1930, plaster, bronze patina, collection of the Australian War Memorial, Canberra; Cobbers, c1932-40, bronze, green patina, collection of the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. This is a bronze version of the original plaster sculpture of Cobbers held in the collection of the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. In 1932 Anderson approached the Australian War Memorial with the notion of producing copies of the plaster version to sell to the public. Later that year, Anderson agreed to sell the original work (and copyright) to the Memorial. The Memorial engaged Melbourne founder, E.J. Gregory, to cast the sculptures in bronze, which he did from a lead model. From 1932 to 1940, approximately 91 copies of Cobbers were cast. They were not editioned and were not numbered. This version is one of the 91 copies.
