    A very rare Chinese blue and white bowl, Kangxi, 1622-1722
    exceptionally well painted with a continuous scene of cranes in a lotus pond, the interior with a central lotus roundel and stylised floral band at the rim, a ‘spoked wheel’ mark to base
    9.8cm high, 19.8cm diameter

  • References:
    Stephen Bushell, ‘Oriental Ceramic Art, The Walters Collection’, New York, October 1980, first published 1896, Plate LXV111; “An identical mark occurs on a brilliant hawthorn-spray plate in the collection, also dating from the same period”. ; W.G. Gulland also mentions a plate with the same mark in the Salting collection.
