Lot Description:Parkinson, Sydney Two engravings. 'A New Zealand warrior in his proper dress & compleatly armed according to their manner', and 'A native of Otaheite
c1784. Two engravings taken from Parkinson's 'A journal of a voyage to the South Seas, in his Majesty's ship, 'The Endeavour'. Faithfully transcribed from the papers of the late Sydney Parkinson'. (London; Printed for Charles Dilly, in the Poultry, and James Phillips, in the George-Yard, 1784). Mounted on board and reporoduced side by side with 'Gent. Mag. August. 1784' inscribed to upper left hand corner. Includes a standing portrait of a Maori man, holding a tewhatewha in his left hand. He has feathers in his hair, a dogskin cloak, a patu tucked into his belt and bone ornaments at his neck. Foxing and wear. G-. -
