A 1937 Rolls Royce Phantom III Engine number M78Q
The Rolls-Royce Phantom III was Rolls-Royce's first V12 engined car - a 60 degree unit of 7,340 cc. Capable of just over 90 mph and 0-60 mph in less than 18 seconds the Phantom III is the epitome of British pre-war motoring excellence. The motor car for all those who could afford one, it was of course the vehicle of choice of Auric Goldfinger, chauffeur driven by Oddjob in the 1964 James Bond film 'Goldfinger'. This September 1937 built Phantom III has a superb unrestored Barker sedanca de ville body (number 8905 to design 6928). The first owner, Mrs Olive Tudor-Hart took delivery on the 29/9/37 before it went to its next owner in the United States, Mr Davis in 1994. The current owner purchased the car from Atlanta, Georgia in 1998 at which time the engine underwent a major rebuild. Electronic ignition for ease of starting was fitted in 2003, since which it has been mostly kept in storage.
