  • Notes:
Significantly in this early work, Summer Flowers, Emily utilises a broader brush with which to make her mark. Emily was gradually covering over, or dispensing with completely, the linear base of the Atnulare Yam, tracks and symbols. This period is characterised by an intensity of colour, aided by a recent expansion of Emily’s colour palette and a direct, clear application of paint. Summer Flowers is a harmonious all-over composition, in which a fecund environment, with verdant shades of green, signifying plants at different stages of growth in the warmth after rain, is intermingled with the richness of the soil and a scattering of flowers and plant matter. ANNABEL HOLT AND JANET HOLT
