    Complete Six Volumes: 'The Spitzer Collection'
    published 1890, by Maison Quantin/Librairie Centrale, Paris and M.M Davis 147 New Bond Street London, complete across six editions, edition 413/ 600, the multi volume tomes extensively cataloguing Frederick Spitzer's (b.Vienna,1815-1890) important private collection comprising objects from the 'Moyen Age - Renaissance' (Middle Ages - Renaissance), each volume set within oversized green and gilt cloth bound folios, each containing chromolithographs, collotypes and heliogravures, each volume 53cm x 37.5cm x 5cm
  • Notes:
    The Spitzer collection was publicly auctioned in 1893 over a three month period and made an estimated total of 10,000,000 Francs. The collection was commonly referred to as 'The Eighth Wonder of The World'. The majority of the collection sold to the Australian-born private collector George Salting (1835-1909). This six volume catalogue originally could be purchased for the hefty sum of 1,200 francs.
