Lot Description:1926 Delage DISS Roadster - One of only 400 produced
The DISS model was only manufactured for one year from March 1925 through to February in 1926 and features a 2200cc engine and 4 speed manual gearbox. Only 400 examples were made. This boy racer example is believed to have an ex 1933 Wolseley Hornet body fitted. This DISS was first sold and registered ‘YC962' to an owner in Somerset, UK. The known history is outlined below; D Hartree of 115, Old Fort Road, Shoreham, SX. (November 1948) Then D.Kempton, 14 Meadow Road, Wolston, Nr Coventry, Warks. (ref. application to DOC 22/2/65, Then Harold W.F.Smith of 19 Awson Street, Foleshill, Coventry (who changed the valves to cotter type) Then (1/65) George Moore of Rushden. Then sold to Paul Edwards in Devon. In late 94, (Martin Stretton Racing) exported car to Keith Bunge (Australia). Before leaving the UK, YC962 appeared in the VSCC (Vintage Sporting Car Club, UK) calendar (see attached b/w scan). It was sporting the larger 21’ wheels at that stage. In the early 2000s it was fully rebuilt by the renowned Historic & Vintage Restorations (Blackburn) without regard to cost for its then owner Keith Bunge. The car was fully rebuilt mechanically as was the lightweight bodywork. The engine was rebuilt to high compression specifications, with bespoke works carried out by Ian Chugg at Crank Shaft Rebuilders. This included the supply and fitment of new pistons & conrods, shell bearings, modern camshaft timing, upgraded oil pump and balanced and blue printed engine components. The 21’ wheels were changed during the restoration for 19' for higher top end speed. These larger wheels (without tyres) will accompany the sale. A file of paperwork comes with the sale including receipts from Historic & Vintage. -
Notes:After competition, Keith’s first event with the cars was the VSCC Alpine Rally in Tasmania. With its mechanical enhancements, the car is a powerful and enjoyable tourer well placed for Sunday runs, historic competition or rallies around the world.
