  • Lot Description:
WILLIAM HAMILTON, important Colonial Australian cedar wine table
solid book-matched flame cedar top, handsomely carved with crisp dragooned edge, and finely carved column, standing on a platform base with Hamilton’s signature scroll over feet, circa 1845.
    76cm high, 53cm diameter
  • Notes:
Note exceptional refinements such as the acanthus carved intersection to the edge placed over the tri-form base. Hamilton was one of Tasmania’s early premier cabinet makers operating out of Hobart Town from 1836 to 1876. His work was represented at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, and the 1866-67 Intercolonial Exhibition Of Australasia in Melbourne. Hamilton is often regarded as the best Tasmanian cabinet maker of his day. This example is in spectacular original condition with beautiful colour and exemplary patination. One of the finest examples seen in our rooms.
