  • Notes:
'We believe we do not own these paintings and rather see ourselves as custodians during our lifetime. We have a shared responsibility for not only the artists who painted them, but also the paintings so that curators, educators, art historians and gallery directors can display them to the public. A collector is a much-maligned person who is usually dismissed as someone who has lots of money and no taste and can purchase whatever she or he wants. That may apply in some cases, but the majority of collectors, in any particular field of collecting, really have a desire and a passion to better understand and extend their knowledge. They are usually very well-informed people. You serve an apprenticeship essentially by looking and you can never look long enough.'
