  Two Superb Old Dani Stone Axe called Yakabiliak Dani People, Baliem Valley, Central Highlands, West Papua (Irian Jaya) Indonesia
  19th to Early 20th Century. These amazing & beautiful stone axes were actually still being used in remote areas of the Baliem Valley and surrounds. They were also important cultural objects that were highly valued by the local people. I paid a significant price to the men I bought these from, I suppose that steel tools were preferred due to their quick use in cutting timber for homes & stockade fences that all Dani family compounds were surrounded by.

  Todd Barlin Field Collected in Jiwika Area in 1985
• Notes:
  The hard dark stone was made by experts from one area with good access to the stone quarry, the handles of these two fine axes have a deep old patina from long use. The field photos are of similar axes in use.
