    Important Russian 14ct Gold Cigarette Case
    stamped 56 kokoshnik (14ct Gold) with maker's mark 'GN' for Gabriel Nuklyanen, St. Petersburg, Russia, (active 1898-1912), with letter of purported provenance detailing original ownership of the case to the wife of Admiral N.C Palmer R.N, Naval Aide Camp to King George V, who was presented the case by Maria Feodorovna, mother of Tzar Nicholas II during meetings between the Russian and British Royal families aboard Royal Navy vessels, with inner inscription to the cover reading 'Please accept this little rememberance, F.Marie, 1913', the case of handsome rounded rectangular proportions with all over engine tuned reeded design, with hinged top cover set with the Russian Imperial Coat of Arms and finely studded with round cut diamonds of varying size, with cabachon cut Sapphire thumb piece, in original presentation case with gilt embossed Russian coat of arms to cover and marking to inner silk lined cover by retailer A.Tillander (Alexander Theodor Tillander) of St Petersburg, length 9cm, depth 6cm and height 1.5cm, total weight 91.99gm

    PROVENANCE: Gift of Marie Feodorovna (formerly Princess Dagmar of Denmark and Empress of Russia from 1881-1894) to wife of Admiral Norman Craig Palmer V.C.O of the Royal Navy and Naval Aide-Camp to King George V from 1913, thence by descent to daughter in law of N.C Palmer, Sold Geoff K.Gray Auctioneers and Valuers, September 1979, Private Collection Sydney, thence by descent Together with letter of purported rovenance provided to the auction house by the daughter in law of Admiral Norman Craig Palamer V.C.O NOTE: Admiral Norman Craig Palmer V.C.O was Captain of H.M.Y Victoria and Albert from 11th August 1909- 16th December 1913, appointed Naval Aide-Camp to King George V on 4th June 1913 and appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (V.C.O) on 13th October 1913.
