    Houses of Parliament 1941 Blitz Ashtray
    Ashtray constructed from Portland stone recovered from bombed sections of the Houses of Parliament, Westminster during the WWII Blitz on 10 May 1941. Lead plaque embossed with 'Big Ben', inscribed 'This Stone came from the Houses of Parliament'. Following the Blitz, the London Stonecraft Company were allowed to make souvenirs from the rubble, such as paperweights, letter racks and ashtrays, for sale to the public to raise funds for the Red Cross. Comes with photocopy of both the Certificate of Authenticity and advertising of the removal of materials by London Stonecraft Ltd. 10 cm (d)._x000D_ _x000D_ PROVENANCE: Crowle Collection._x000D_ _x000D_ RELATED: A gargoyle from this same Blitz damage sale was donated to Parliament House, Canberra by Lorna Crowle in 1983.
