Papua New Guinea, Early to Mid-20th Century. This beautiful old Headdress is tightly woven and ochre painted & with a bright colour likely bought at the trade store. The Abelam love bright colours not found in nature and were acquired as prestige materials used on their most important ceremonial objects.
