    on a custom stand. This beautiful old male ancestor figure once adorned the end of a massive horizontal Garamut Slit Gong Drum that the Sepik & Ramu River societies are renown for. Each village had at least one if not several of the impressive drums were used in many traditional ceremonies but also allowed distant villages to communicate with each other. See the historical photo for the type of Slit Gong Drum this figure came off of.
