Lot Description:A Finely Carved Ceremonial Boars Head, Middle Sepik River Area, East Sepik Province,
Papua New Guinea, Mid-20th Century or Earlier, on a custom stand. This old and highly animated carved Boars Heads was attached to a larger sculpture like a large dance costume as it has square lug at the back where it was tied on to something. Wild Boars are a fierce & respected animal in New Guinea they can easily kill a strong man. They are also clan totems. See the photo of a woven boar shaped costume in the men's house.
