    A Superb Old Tabua Sperm Whale Tooth Necklace, Fiji 19th Century or Earlier
    The term tabua refers to a 'presentation whale tooth which is the greatest of all Fijian valuables or Chiefly or kavakaturanga Sacred Object, Whales Teeth in Fiji is closely associated with divine power and with chiefs as embodiments of divine ancestors. Fijian people only acquired whales' teeth from beached whales who died from natural causes, they did not hunt or kill whales.
