Notes:Drums in New Guinea are essential to all traditional ceremonies, they are important family heirlooms passed down over generations. When I was field collecting drums were often the one type of artwork that people did not want to sell. This drum is finely incised with ancestral spirit figures and clan designs and has deep old patina from long use.
