Provenance:Todd Barlin Field Collected in 1986

Notes:The Kamoro are an Asmat related language & they migrated up the coast to be out of reach from the endless headhunting raids that the Asmat did in pre-European contact times. They were a more peaceful community & their artworks reflected this. The Kamoro are also known or referred to as the Mimika but the Kamoro is what they call themselves. I spent long periods of time living in Kamoro Villages where I field collected artworks and documented ceremonies for Museums including the Musee du Quai Branly where the pair of monumental Mbitoro Ancestor Poles can be seen today.
