Lot Description:Two Fine Old Abelam Coconut Spoons, Prince Alexander Mountains, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, Early 20th Century
these were two of the best coconut spoons that I ever owned; coconut is a very difficult material to carve but the artists abilities are clear to see. This bowls I was told were used by initiates during their seclusion when they were only allowed to eat specific foods given to them by their relatives.
