Lot Description:A Superb Old Over Modelled Bone Dagger, Middle Sepik River Area, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea
this beautiful old Cassowary Bone Dagger has a finely made clay ancestors head finial, the naturalistic head is reminiscent of the over modelled ancestors head that the Sepik is well known for, the heads looks like a portrait with shell eyes & decorations and human hair, it has real fine sculptural feel.
H 40 cm -
Provenance:Collected in 1965-1966 by the Geologist Peter Austin; Todd Barlin Collection of Oceanic Art.
