    James MacNish studied medicine at Glasgow University in 1830's before coming to Australia to practice, he died in Sydney in 1886. He studied under many notable early 19th Century Professors, the collection of documents includes 26 engraved tickets confirming his attendance at lectures or completion of a course, most are signed or initialed by the professor, many with a comment. Includes William Jackson Hooker, lectures on Botany 1834 'Attendance certified W.J.H' in ink on verso + James Jeffray, Anatomy & Surgery 1792 + James Rattray, Botany 1835 + Robert Hunter, Practical Anatomy 1832, including handwritten letter of recommendation dated 1836 + James Adair Lawrie, Surgery 1832 + J.M.Pagan, Midwifery 1846 etc. Documents include the wills of both James (1886) and his wife Eliza (1908) + 1849 Vellum document from the Senate of Glasgow University with seal + 'The Anatomy of Drunkenness' by Robert MacNish (brother of James), Glasgow, 1834, Fifth edition, full leather, gilt, marbled endpapers & edges + 'The History of the Clan Neish or MacNish' Edinburgh 1925
