  Lord Snowdon was commissioned, in 1980, to undertake a photographic essay of Tasmania, covering as much of the picturesque island as possible in the time available. the main purpose of the project was to set up an exhibition and to publish a comprehensive book of the Tasmanian photographs. The book, ‘Tasmania Essay’ was published in 1981.
