    Teko Teko, "Tutane Kai", Ornamented Ancestral Figure, Column Section of a Maori Pa, with Paua Pearl Shell Inlay, Rotorua, New Zealand
    bought from Maori Chief John Gardiner (English name) at Rotorua during 1960's. Notes "John Gardiner's hand written commentary, description of ornamenting symbols and story (of) how this statue of Teko Teko "insisted" to come to us will be attached". Photocopy of this two page letter comes with the piece. Orginal not supplied. (Imperfect transposition provided due to partial illegibility of text).

    Condition: Slight break middle left hand side and a crack in the head.

    Jutta was a well respected photo-journalist and author whose work in anthropology was widely recognised throughout the Pacific. She made many trips to the Pacific, particularly the Trobriand Islands, researching her book "Kula" and collecting artefacts.
