  • Lot Description:
A Tourmaline and Keshi Pearl Brooch
Of abstract design, the textured gold branch set between two carved tourmaline wings and suspending a baroque keshi pearl, measuring approximately 20.85 x 19.50 x 15.20mm, signed White, gross weight approximately 44.40 grams, mounted in 18k gold, length 6.50cm.
  • Notes:
Keshi pearls are formed when the oyster rejects and expels the implanted nucleus before the culturing process is complete. This leaves a partially formed pearl which may continue to develop but without a nucleus. The resulting pearl is 100% nacre which gives an especially lustrous and shimmering surface quality. Most keshi pearls have a greater lustre than the best quality cultured pearls.
