Lot Description:A Tolai Figure, New Britain, Papua New Guinea
this softwood figure would be the finial of a dance costume. Like most Tolai figures, it is painted in bright colours. It is composed of separate pieces, joined with pegs. There may originally have been two small hands. At the base it is unpainted with two holes, and ropes, where it was tied into the dance costume.
