  A War Shield, Basim Area, Asmat Region, West Papua, Late 1970's

• Notes:
  Collection notes: Shield. Softwood . 152 x 30 cms. Small carved head projecting on top of shield. Black bands top and bottom with rich brown ochre on shell white background. Style typical of the Basim area on the Fajit river. Symbolism is similar to shields 1 and 3 with the three dominant "AINOR" (mysterious designs), the top oval shape a "MBIAN" (stone Axe), "PE FE" (crabs feet) and "BIPANE" (shell nose pieces) on the edges. Late 1970's.
