Lot Description:WORLD WAR II: British RAF “Pilot’s Flying Log Book” for Flight Officer Kenneth Robert Thompson of Drummoyne NSW
First entry for June 1942 for a “Tiger Moth” training flight. Further 1943-44 training flights in Airspeed “AS.10 Oxford”, progressing to Bristol “Blenheim” and Martin “Baltimore” bombers. Active sorties as pilot commencing in August 1944 with raids on targets in Italy until shot-down by anti-aircraft fire in November 1944 near Faenza, Italy when piloting a Baltimore bomber. Final log entry recording “Missing from operations/25.11.44” with ‘DEATH PRESUMED’ handstamp beneath. Accompanying material includes Air Ministry, RAF Benevolent Fund and Commonwealth of Australia missives relating to his passing, plus photographs, aircraft information and HMSO publication RAF Middle East (Feb.1942 to Jan.1943). -
