  • Notes:
    Moonboy, along with Kelly's armoured figure is among Nolan's most enduring images. Its first appearance was in 1939-40 with Boy and the Moon (National Gallery of Australia, Canberra) and soon after Nolan painted it on the roof of Heide, where he lived with Sunday and John Reed. In 1962 he used the motif as the backdrop for Stravinsky's, The Rite of Spring, performed at Covent Garden in London.
