    Collection of Manuscripts of Novels and other Works by Jeffery Farnol (1878 - 1952)
    a large collection of typed manuscripts, working drafts in exercise books & writing pads most heavily annotated, publicity photographs & family photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, & writings by his wife Phyllis. Includes: THE BROAD HIGHWAY (1910) archive - typed original manuscript, approximately 354 pages + quantity of notebooks labelled 'original script very chaotic' + typed script 'The Broad Highway A Romantic Play' 4 books + Act 1 & Act 11 + typed pages labelled 'omitted portion of Broad Highway' + the letter from Shirley Byron Jevons (editor of The Sportsman) to Jeffery's mother Kate that resulted in the publication of Jeffery Farnol's best seller, dated 3/3/10 + numerous letters of appreciation to Jeffery following the publication of Broad Highway. Other manuscripts or fragments of manuscripts include a small note book of 'War Poems' 1918; The Amateur Gentleman typed play script; A Dramatization of "Our Admirable Betty' (1923) typed; The Object, typed play script, The Honourable Mr.Tawnish Romantic Play in three acts, typed script; Sir John Derring manuscript notebooks; The Professor's Mistake, short story typed manuscript; Martin Conisby's Vengeance, ink manuscript; Our Admirable Betty, manuscript notebooks; Adam Penfeather manuscript notebooks; Bombay articles; John O'The Green, manuscript notebooks; The Account, unpublished manuscript in notebooks; Hove, typed manuscript etc. The collection of writings by Phyllis Farnol include notes on Jeffery & his life, short stories, letters from Jeffery when he was in India 1936, a piece of dried heather 'Jack picked for me on Dartmoor August 1925' & a notebook with Jeffery's final message to Phyllis written on his deathbed in 1952. Condition varies, some manuscripts browned & brittle, majority sound [3 Boxes]
