Notes:The Berkeley Gallery on Davies Street off Berkeley Square, was a mecca for collectors during the three decades following its foundation in 1941. Oriental, Oceanic, African, Pre-Columbian, classical Antiquities and Contemporary art could be found. The owner, William Ohly, also found the time and energy to run a commune for artists in New Barnet to the north of London, which he called the Abbey Art Centre. Ernest was the elder brother of William Ohly.
