  • Notes:
In 1936, Arthur Murch departed Australia with his girlfriend Lelia Suleau, a poet. There are some paintings of women from the 1930s that may well be inspired by the red-haired Lelia. Murch painted Lelia's portrait for the 1935 Archibald Prize, but the whereabouts of this portrait is unknown. This Bathing Nude may well be inspired by Lelia and was painted early in 1939 in England. Next to Arthur Murch's signature is written: "Study for Bathing '39". The work was sold through Grosvenor Galleries for 35 guineas. Michelle Murch purchased the work in 2014 at the auction of the Bill and Eileen Cammack Collection. Michelle Murch
