  J.R. CHARTON (Britain/Malaya, active 1920s–1940s) - TRAVEL IN COMFORT BY MALAYAN RAILWAY
  c1933 colour lithograph, signed in image lower left, 72.5 x 53cm. Linen-backed. “Printed by Caxton Press Ltd, Kuala Lumpur.” In 1933 artist J.R. Charton designed five posters for the Federated Malay States Railway. A newspaper review of Charton’s work noted that the imagery of the posters was “exceedingly effective” and would therefore encourage tourists to make an overland journey through Malaya. [Ref: Malaya Tribune, 23.11.1933]
