    An Early Fighting Shield, Wahgi Valley, PNG
    this shield is ancient, with the top cane rim having disappeared. The base is repaired with cane binding and a piece of wood nailed on at the back. It is obviously a much-loved fighting shield.

  • Provenance:
    Collected by patrol officer, Rodney Don, who was stationed at Obura, Eastern Highlands Province, in late 1960s-early 1970s. He returned for a visit in early 1980s and not clear when this shield were collected.
