    1824 - AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN TWO TICKET-OF-LEAVERS FOR THE RENTAL OF FARMLAND
    James Dorr [or Dore], one of 200 convicts transported on the Surrey in January 1814 had been granted a ticket-of-leave by 1820 and had married in 1817 (a fellow convict, Mary Lyons from Limerick, who had arrived in 1811]. The present document, an indenture dated November 1824 formalizes an agreement between him and a fellow, ex-convict, John Murphy (probably one of 338 convicts transported on the Coromandel and Experiment in November 1803) for the use of farming land “containing Forty acres situate and lying in the District of Kurry Jong in the County of Northumberland.....for the full term of Five years.” Murphy applies his “x”, Dorr signs for himself and the whole is witnessed by one, Alex’r Fraser.
