    OXFORD GAZETTE - ENGLAND - Dec.28 to Jan.1 1665, Numb.14: Precursor to the “London Gazette”
    with all issues from #1 to #23 being printed in Oxford, due to The Plague contagion rampant in London, the journal not returning to the capital until issue #24, when it was renamed the “London Gazette”; the contents mostly describe ship and military movements around Europe; condition is somewhat aged with brittle edges and a small taped repair at base. Extremely rare.

    [The London Gazette is believed to be oldest continuously published newspaper in the United Kingdom, having been first published on 7th November 1665 (as the Oxford Gazette). As an official government journal it publishes statutory notices and other matters of public interest.]
