Lot Description:Coins: 1797 King George III ‘Cartwheel’ One Penny
a huge 28g copper coin which became Australia’s first penny when HMS Porpoise brought a shipment from Britain in 1800 to be used by the NSW Governor to pay for supplies, the coin then going into general circulation; together with a half penny ‘Cartwheel’ and a New Brunswick penny, 1851, (3 items). -
