1942 HUDSON SUPER SIX COUPE LHD
    Chassis No: 2119970
  • Notes:
The Super Six engine had increased output from 93 to 124 horsepower (from 1936 onwards). Hudson’s innovations in industrial design continued with the introduction of the column shift with a new manual 3 speed synchromesh transmission with quieter all helical gears. This freed front-seat passenger space and Hudson became the first car manufacturer to use foam rubber in its seats. Hudson introduced coil spring independent front suspension and true centre-point steering on all its models from 1940 onwards, which was another major advancement for the times. The 1942 Hudson is essentially an updated 1941 model featuring a five-louver grille and reshaped bumper bars. But, as pressure mounted on all the car manufacturers to innovate some sort of automatic or assisted shifting, Hudson moved to the “shiftless” market with the Drive-Master system, which combined the Vacumotive clutch with a servo-operated transmission. Unlike other shifters, though, Hudson’s had three modes: Drive-Master, Vacumotive, and Off. Thus, one could have automatic shifting and clutching, automated clutching only, or fully manual gear selection. The radio featured a floor-mounted push button to change stations and automatic volume control. In 1939, Hudson engaged the artistic genius of Elizabeth Ann Thatcher, who later became Betty Thatcher Oros, A graduate of the Cleveland School of Arts with honours in Industrial Design, Thatcher became one of America’s first female automotive designers. Her contributions to the 1941 Hudson included exterior trim with side lighting, the fabulous interior instrument panel, interior elements and trim fabrics. This interesting motor car was bought by Clem from Mr. David W. Marley of Pffaftown, NC, USA, in November 2010. It is in the original left-hand drive configuration and features the 3-speed column shift manual gearbox. The spacious boot has the spare wheel and jack. The Elizabeth Thatcher dashboard is in very good order retaining the original clock, gauges, heating and cooling system and radio. This 1942 model provides an opportunity to acquire a Hudson specifically chosen by Clem Smith for its period significance. The sale is accompanied by the Certificate of Title; Bill of Sale and the Vehicle Import Approval. This vehicle will be sold unregistered. NO RESERVE.
