  Sellick’s Beach, the Australian Grand Prix at Port Wakefield and the Collingrove Hillclimb in the Barossa Valley are central to the history of motorsport in South Australia. These intrepid events attracted the most tenacious and aspiring young racers in the country either side of the war. Amongst the competitors and starting grids was a young Clem Smith in his Hudson Terraplane and although that car’s whereabouts is now unknown, there are clear memories of it remaining in the family for many years. Clem’s passion for Hudson continued throughout his life as demonstrated by the comprehensive line up of 9 fascinating examples in the collection. Clem searched for this 1934 Terraplane model to recapture his earlier escapades in motor racing. It was bought in September 1994 from Mr. John Hensel and became the subject of a comprehensive ground up restoration, including an engine rebuild, based at Clem Smith Motors’ South Road premises. It was painted by Findon Crash Repairs. According to the historic vehicle logbooks, Clem has participated in the Bay to Birdwood in this car in 2002, 2008 and 2010. The car is filled with the eccentric design features of the Terraplane marque and comes with its fold down top and bows and is fitted with Firestone Cross ply tyres. It features later temperature gauges installed to the dash. The odometer reading is 87,485 miles. This car is a central part of Clem Smith’s motoring life and one of his most beloved and offers an enthusiast and admirer a great opportunity to retain this important part of the collection. The file accompanying the car contains a Hudson Drive Master Service Information booklet and a photocopy version of a Terraplane owner’s manual. This vehicle will be sold unregistered.
