  Australian Motor Industries (AMI) hold a highly significant position in the establishment of the automotive industry in Australia with its origins tracing back to 1926. By 1960, AMI were assembling a broad range of American Motor Company cars suitable for our market in right hand drive carrying the Rambler brand name. Ultimately, Australians could purchase a Rambler car from the range long after US equivalent models had been dropped from the US market. The Rambler American was introduced in 1964 and built by AMI in Port Melbourne from complete knockdown chassis kits shipped from the U.S. (CKD). The Rambler American was produced mostly in the fully optioned 440 models with Rambler’s steadfast 195.6 cu in (3.2 L) in-line 6-cylinder 195.6 cu in (3.2 L) engine. The midlevel 330 model was discontinued leaving the top 440 and base 220 models in the offering for 1966. There were 540 Classics assembled in Australia. This example for auction has its original bench seat with front and rear livery in striking red with white paintwork. The car has a column shift manual 3-speed gear box in this case with an 8-ball gear-knob. The odometer reading is 02553 miles approx. Clem registered the car with an Historic registration logbook with the SCCSA in 2013. The car retains its original steel wheels and original Rambler radio with later Phillips speakers fitted to the rear sill. More than 50 years after it was produced, this economical mid-range car is one of today’s most affordable and fun Australian built classics. The Rambler American 330 on offer in the collection presents with original features and is a car that has appeal to Australian and American collectors alike. This vehicle will be sold unregistered.
