Lot Description:TURANA TARGET DRONE
342 cm long, 153 cm wide, 89 cm deep -
Notes:The Turana Target drone was designed and built in Australia as a development of the Ikara anti submarine weapon system. It was deployed by the Australian Navy for anti aircraft gunnery practice, and following the end of a predetermined flight pattern, the drone was recovered after a parachute landing in the sea. Turana was launched using rockets and propelled in flight by a Microturbo 022 Cougar turbojet engine. The drone towed a target upon which the anti aircraft gun would practice. The design was built before 1972, before GPS was introduced. The drone required the development of a special onboard navigation device.
