    1963 JENSEN CV8 MK I
Chassis no: 104/2031; Engine no: 034/4
  • Notes:
Alan and Richard Jensen formed Jensen Motors Limited in West Bromwich, Staffordshire in 1934. The Jensen CV8 was introduced at the Earls Court Motor Show in London in October 1962. It was designed in house by Eric Neale and like its predecessor the Jensen 541 it had a fiberglass body with aluminium door skins. In total just 500 CV8 cars were built of which half were Mk II models manufactured between October 1963 and July 1965. Production of the Mk III CV8 ceased in December 1966. The Mk I cars initially were fitted with Chrylser 361cu in (5.9 litre) V8 engines before the later cars adopted the Chrysler 383 cu in (6.1 litre) V8. Apart from a handful of four-speed manuals all Jensen CV8 cars had the very efficient three-speed Chrysler Torqueflite automatic gearbox. Of the 500 cars built just 24 were delivered to overseas customers. It was not until the replacement for the CV8, the Jensen Interceptor, was introduced that the company began to export its cars in earnest. By that time however, the Jensen brothers had left the company and it is for this reason that many claim that the CV8 is the last true Jensen. The Jensen CV8 was fast (capable of some 135 mph with its four-barrel carburettor), handled very well and was quite luxurious, meaning that this GT had a strong following with business men who liked to drive themselves and also offer a dignified persona. Primarily it was offered in conservative colours with correspondingly subdued interior trim colours. It offers four seats, in best quality hide upholstery, in a two-door coupé body. The Jensen CV8 found fame on the television screen being the chariot of choice for antique dealer/secret agent John Mannering (played by American actor Steve Forrest) in the series The Baron. The Baron was the first British made television drama program to be entirely filmed in colour and ran for 30 episodes in 1966 and 1967. The CV8 Mk I offered here was delivered on the 1st May 1963 to its new owner in London with the registration 53 FLW. It was originally finished in Deep Carriage Green, though it is now blue, but still sports its original beige colour interior. It is a rare car being one of the just 69 Mk I cars built by Jensen between November 1962 and November 1963 and is fitted with the 361cu in Chrysler engine. It left the UK some time after 1976. This car presents in good all round condition but would benefit from attention to detailing in a few minor areas. This vehicle will be sold unregistered
