1924 RENE GILLET MODEL G WITH BERNADET SIDECAR
Frame no: 669; Engine no: 669
  • Notes:
René Gillet built his first motorcycle in 1895 and went on to establish his business in 1898 with headquarters in Paris and Montrouge. This make was known for its reliability and strength and it was particularly suited to the army and police forces. Like all developing motorcycle constructors, René Gillet competed in endurance races winning the Bol d'Or several times. Given this success, René Gillet decided to expand production in 1938. The René Gillet Model G was released in 1922, with a strong V-twin, side-valve 750cc engine which was favourably compared with Harley-Davidson for its power and sturdy chassis, as was the 1000cc version. The Bernadet sidecar combination was a popular and stylish means of transportation for families. After the war, the company continued building smaller two-stroke machines and was eventually taken over by Peugeot in 1958. This original and well-preserved 750cc Model G was imported to Australia in 2006 and purchased by the vendor in March, 2007. On purchase, the bike was serviced with new cables and fittings; the horn was repaired; original paintwork attended to; leather strapping replaced and it was tuned by Wolf Grodd of Sleeping Beauties, QLD. Resplendent with the original Bernadet sidecar this vintage outfit has been enjoyed as a family leisure time machine. It was registered while in Australia and taken to France by the vendor while his family sojourned there for a while being enjoyed as a means of picking up the baguettes in the morning. It was then brought it back to Australia where it has been on display since. This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire a motorcycle of this quality in Australia and most certainly makes an excellent collectors' choice. This motorcycle will be sold unregistered
