  The sensational Jaguar E-type was hailed by Enzo Ferrari as, "The most beautiful car ever made" (Classic Car Review 1964, article by Sean Curtis) and in 1996 the New York City Museum of Modern Art recognised the significance of the E-type's design by adding a blue roadster to its permanent design collection, one of only six motor cars to receive the distinction. Over the years, three models were released in the E-type range; the Series 1, 2 and 3 and they were produced in 3 body styles; the roadster; the fixed-head coupe and the 2+2 fixed-head coupe. The development of the occasional 4-seater or 2+2, was with an eye on the American market. In so doing, the elegant lines of the 2 seater remained but as the extra space could not be provided in the existing E-type design, the decision to lengthen the wheelbase involved the re-engineering of the monocoque structure mid-ships, ultimately creating a beautiful and spectacular high performance, 4-seater tourer. Unfortunately, the car that dominated sports car classes during the 1960s and remained virtually unchanged in appearance finally reached its cross road in 1969 with the Series 2. And so, the Series 3 V12 was born becoming the most powerful E-type produced, with the massive engine dropped in from the top rather than the entire car being assembled around the twin cam 6-cylinder engine as in the Series 1 and 2. Some minimal structural changes were implemented allowing space to fit a Borg Warner automatic transmission which became an available option. Production of the Series 3 ceased in 1974. Proudly on offer with Mossgreen, is this impeccably maintained Jaguar E-type Series 3 V12 Fixed Head Coupe 2 + 2 accompanied by an extra-ordinary cache of documentation detailing an absolutely unique provenance. Importantly, this includes the original buff coloured log book showing the first registered owner and specifying Jaguar Export Sales Ltd of Browns Lane, Coventry as its first registered keeper for and on behalf of Jaguar Cars Limited Personal Export Division. This historical paperwork indicates the car was ordered by the young and aspiring Australian Mal Stanton in 1971 from Jaguar dealer K.J. Motors of Orpington, Kent, as an Australian specification personal export in signal red a with black interior. At this time Stanton was racing motorcycles in the UK including The Isle of Man TT and while working at the Jaguar factory ordered his car through the dealership as required by Jaguar Cars. He was, however, able to observe the hand-assembly of his own factory optioned car, which included: heated rear window; seat belts; laminated windscreen and head rests. According to The Jaguar E-type, The Definitive History by Phillip Porter. pp 704, Appendix 8 - Exports by Market, there were 57 Series 3 2+2 built for Export Misc. PERSONAL ETC in 1972. In November 1972, Stanton took delivery and in mid 1974, he shipped the car to Australia on the Toyota Mura following immediately behind with his family on the Australis. The precious cargo arrived via the Port of Adelaide in late 1974 and Stanton drove it over night to Melbourne. Throughout the ensuing years the E-type was driven on occasions where speeds of over 100mph where de rigour including the wonderful open roads of NSW. During the 1980s, Stanton made a few replacements including a new clutch, heavy duty lay shaft and big end bearings, achieving Fastest Time of Day at Winton Motor Raceway and being awarded the Terry Kelly Trophy in the early 1980s. The V12 E-type had covered around 78,000 miles by this time. After a minor front end collision in the early 1980's, it was taken off the road and sat in Stanton's Gembrook workshop for many years although it was stripped and painted during this time. In 2007, as he was winding down his Jaguar specialist workshop, Mal Stanton offered the car privately to its current owner who had shown passionate enthusiasm for it for many years. At this time the car was put back together to standard specification, apart from the wire wheels. The vendor took delivery in March, 2008 and has taken loving care of it ever since. It is now presented in well maintained condition and has been displayed in several Jaguar Car Club Concours' including Motorclassica. The vendor has regularly undertaken maintenance work himself and in 2013-14 comprehensive renewal of wearing parts was carried out by Jag 'E' type Restorations of Somerton; Mike Roddy Jaguar of Moorabbin and Matt Belcher of Matt's Automotive of Kilsyth South, Victoria. This work has included brakes and master cylinders, bushes, radiator core renewal, hoses and seals, filters, shock absorbers and fittings. Detailed receipts are available totalling some $24,000. It still runs with the original Stromberg carburettors and major engine parts and has an odometer reading of 126,000 mile approximately. The valuable file of documents accompanying the sale of this sports car includes rare historical Jaguar items including: the original factory Car Colour Guide; The Passport to Service book for personal export delivery; original routine maintenance chart; wiring diagram and a manufacturer's warranty. The sale of this car will include the original tool-kit and jack in as new condition; operating maintenance and service handbook in its original vinyl wallet. This file also includes all the original sales receipts and shipping documents from Stanton relating to the early years of his f1 ownership in the UK. The historical documentation states this car was manufactured as a factory four-speed manual, right hand drive. Therefore, the opportunity for a discerning collector to acquire a sports car of this quality and being one that has never been offered on the open market before and with this degree of provenance with only 2 owners, is indeed a rarity and one that seldom comes along. This vehicle will be sold unregistered.
