London, James and John Knapton, 1729.
  • Notes:
The collected edition of Dampier’s voyages – initially published over a decade spanning the end of the seventeenth and the beginning of the eighteenth centuries – is here supplemented with a fourth volume containing complete editions of William Funnell’s adverse account of Dampier’s last voyage in the St. George; the account of his buccaneering voyages and travels by Dampier’s associate, doctor turned buccaneer Lionel Wafer; and William Hacke’s edition of the buccaneering voyages of Cowley, Sharp, Wood, and Roberts. This is generally considered “the best and most sought-after edition of the work. If possible, this is the edition to add to a collection.” (Davidson). It has become surprisingly scarce. Casey Wood, 309; Clancy, 6.24; Davidson, pp. 32-3; Hill 2, 422; Sabin, 18373.
