  • Notes:
The Pontiac Buggy Company started in 1893 helping propel America into the modern era of transportation. By 1907 it became one of the top selling manufacturers in the U.S. From 1924, Holden's Motor Body Builders Ltd (HMBB) exclusively supplied GM in Australia with bodies to suit a range of imported US motor car chassis known as complete knock down chassis (CKD). This classic piece of Australiana was originally assembled by Holden, as a tourer using imported CKD, typical of the late 1920's when a robust local industry provided vehicles ideally suited to our rugged terrain. Utility vehicles too were in demand. Often tourers or sedans were converted to buckboards involving the rear seat and bodywork being removed to create a tray. Homemade wooden frames or steel fabricated box structures were used by the do-it-yourself owner and until Lew Brandt invented the Ute in 1934, all manner of buckboards appeared. In this instance a Jinker tub was used and retained during the six year restoration of this historical vehicle found at a clearing sale in 1997. This interesting Pontiac is powered by a side-valve 6 cylinder, split head, 3 litre engine with a 3 speed, crash gearbox. Included in this lot: spare parts, chassis, running gear and body panels.
