  Toyota's local assembly operation AMI (Australian Motor Industries) put 3 Coronas through their paces in the annual Armstrong 500 mile (800 km) race at Bathurst in 1965 where showroom stock, series production cars were put through a punishing reliability test. If a car survived a debut at Bathurst the marketing benefits were massive. This car with a four-speed column shift, leaf-sprung live rear axle and four-wheel drum brakes, is a true survivor provides an excellent starter classic car.
