  • Notes:
The first generation Ford Mustang (1964-1973) trail blazed the Pony Car, a raging success on street and track. Lee Iacocca, Vice President and General Manager of Ford Division achieved his dream for a four seater, floor shift, shorter than 180 inches, less than 2500 pounds, under $2,500 car that utilised existing components from the Falcon and Fairlane. With its long hood, short deck, shorter wheelbase, wider track, lower seating position and lower overall stance, the wildly popular Mustang remains one of Ford's most revered classics. The distinguishing Pony Interior made way for a new deluxe interior package in 1967/68. Special colour options, wood grain trim, buttoned upholstery, new interior panelling and tilted steering wheel set a new benchmark in style. January 1968 introduced 3 point lap and shoulder belts, integrated air-conditioning, stereo upgrade and the option for unique centre and overhead consoles. The fastback model offered the option of a rear fold-down seat. The new instrument panel provided for an optional tachometer, clock and revised comprehensive warning light panel. The Ford emblem was taken off the bonnet, new front and rear side markers added and the rear vision mirror relocated from frame to windscreen. A 302 cu in (4.9 L) V8 engine was now available and C-Stripe graphics were added. This GT Fastback was made on 17th January 1968 at the San Jose factory and restored in Australia in 2006. Repainted in Acapulco Blue, fully re-upholstered and refurbished using US-made interior kits. A new windscreen and Moto-Lita steering wheel were fitted. The owner advises that the car has electronic ignition, Pacemaker extractors and C4 3-speed automatic transmission, rear coil spring telescopic dampers, Holley carburettor and is currently fitted with a 302 J-Code motor being correct for the year, offering the buyer the opportunity to install a 390 cubic inch engine to original specifications. The RHD conversion by Bob Maloney was overseen by the owner in 2005. Documentation includes Marti report and import approval.
