EDWARD SCHAFER rare and early goldminer’s ring, 15ct yellow gold with gold nugget specimen flanked by a pick and shovel, circa 1850s
stamped with a gothic “E.S.” with kangaroo and emu and early Schafer mark possibly pre-dating his Melbourne business and placing him in the Ballarat goldfields where reference has been made to a jeweller “Edwards” of Ballarat. Note the lack of “Melbourne” stamp.
