Notes:"Hu Boxiang was a painter and photographer. He went to Shanghai with his father, Hu Tan, also a painter, in 1913 and began his career. He became a good friend of Wu Changshou, a master painter, and despite the differences in age, Hu benefited greatly from friendship both in terms of painting and spiritual enlightenment. He became skilled at Chinese traditional portraiture, landscape and animals. Western lithography, watercolour and photography were also things that he mastered beautifully. He founded and became director of the Oriental Fine Arts Society early in his career.
