made for surveying on or under the ground, incised D. W. BRUNTON'S PAT. SEPT. 18, 1894 APR. 14, 1914 WM. AINSWORTH & SONS SOLE MANUFACTURERS PAT. OCT. 2, 12. MAY 27. 13. DENVER, COLO. U. S. A., serial number 2037, with leather case, in working order Catalogue Note: Used by John Armstrong in the early days of Broken Hill and Cobar to plot the dip, strike and direction of sedimentary ore carrying beds. John Armstrong was the chief metallurgist for the old 'Proprietary Mine' at Broken Hill in the late 1800s and later General Manager of the 'Great Cobar Mine' until 1908 -
